Cassava rasper
Application/use
To extract starch from cassava tubers
Description of the technology

The main components of the machine are hopper, top and  bottom covers, rotating drum, chute and pulp collecting box. The hopper was fixed with the top cover and chute was welded with the bottom cover. The two halves of the cover form the crushing chamber. Inside the crushing chamber, rasping drum rotates in horizontal axis. Thirty numbers of saw-teeth blades with 25 teeth each were fixed along the circumference of the drum to crush the tuber in presence of water. A rectangular shaped 6mm copper pipe was fixed near bottom side of the hopper to spray water over the crushing surface. A rectangular sieve frame was fabricated and inserted above the chute to filter the starch pulp. The capacity of the rasper for two industrially popular varieties of cassava viz. H-165 and H-226 was found to be 360 and 385 kg/h respectively with corresponding rasping effects of 75.99 and 78.81%. The average particle size of cassava flour through different size screens were evaluated and found to  be between 0.25mm and 250m.
