The disease is widely distributed and caused by Cercospora henningsii. It produce leaf spots on both sides of the leaves. On the upper surface the spots apper uniformly brown with a distinct darker border. On the lower surface the centre of the spots apper grayish probably due to abundance of conidiophores and conidia of this pathogen. The spots enlarge (3-12 m ) and the infected leaves turn yellow and dryand drop Susceptible and varieties show heavy defoliation during warm rainy seasons Lower leaves are more susceptible. Use of resistant varieties wider spacing, application of copper fungicides etc are recommented. |
